Personal grooming includes aspects like face care, body care, hair care, skin care, sun care and much more. But the one thing that often neglected is caring for your nails and hands. Your face might get noticed first but your hands get the maximum exposure. Besides harsh sun and chaffing winds they are in direct contact with drying elements like detergents, hot water etc. resulting your hands look years older than the rest of you.
Caring for nails is equally important as taking care and pampering all the other body parts. Nails keep on growing so one need to regularly clean them and keep them in shape. Smoking damages nails very badly so one should avoid smoking or should cut off the intake to keep oneself healthy and to keep the nails healthy. Ensure that half of your diet is made up of fresh fruits and raw vegetables. This will supple your nails with vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Drink fresh carrot juice as often as possible. It is rich in calcium and phosphorus which is good for strengthening the nails.
Manicure makes your hand beautiful. First step in a manicure is to shape or file the nails.
Wash your hands with herbal based soap and lukewarm water and tap dry your hands. (You should never use a file on wet finger nails. Just as your hair is weaker and requires more care when it is wet, the same holds true for fingernails.) While they are moist, use a cuticle cutter and remove all the dead tissue around your nails. When the nails are soft, they are easy to cut and file. Use a nail file and shape up your nails as desire with easy, gentle strokes. File from the side to the middle along the edge of the nail for the best results. Do not apply pressure on the top which will cause them to crack and break. Improper filing can weaken the nails.
Apply nail polish if require. Water-based nail enamels, hypoallergenic and unscented nail products are available if you have sensitive skin. Women do wear long artificial nails matching with their outfits to make their fingers look different and they do different art work on the nails to make them appear unique.
Remember that your hands reach out to people and so are very much noticed by others.
